Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment for Wales. They were set up with the aim of conserving Wales's heritage, helping people understand and care about their history and helping to sustain the distinctive character of Wales. This is a spatial dataset containing basic information concerning Scheduled Ancient Monuments (SAM) that lie within the boundaries of Wales. The data has been provided as a guide to the SAMs. Areas have been interpreted from paper maps taken from original legal documents and therefore remain indicative only. Archaeological sites of national importance are given legal protection by being placed on a 'Schedule' of monuments.
