British Geological Survey (BGS): 50k Onshore Geology (3rd Party Data)
The British Geological Survey (BGS) is a UK provider of geoscientific data, information and knowledge. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has licenced access to a number of BGS datasets. This particular spatial data is a collation of licenced data from BGS Geology 50k: DiGMapGB-50 all of which depict the data at a scale of 1:50,000. This data is split into the following themes: - Bedrock Geology - Superficial deposits - Mass movement - Artificial ground - Linear Features

NRW only has access to the Wales extent, and some border areas in England which are relevant to their area of work. The geological areas (or polygons) are labelled or attributed with a name (based on their lithostratographical, chronostratographical or lithodemic nomenclature) and their composition (rock type or lithology). This information is arranged in up to four themes as available: bedrock geology; superficial deposits; mass movement; and artificial ground. Faults and other linear features are available in a separate theme. Geology maps are the foundation for many other types of earth science related maps and are of potential use to a wide range of customers. Data is missing for squares where BGS have not surveyed the area and therefore cannot be provided.
