Plantlife International: Important Plantlife Areas (3rd Party Data)
Plantlife International collects and holds a large quantity of data on plants and habitats of conservation importance throughout the UK from a network of individuals and organisations. This data collations is owned by Plantlife International and has been licence to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) for use. The Important Plant Area (IPA) programme is intended to inform and underpin existing international, regional and national conservation programmes and legislation. Ultimately Plantlife aim to have Important Plantlife Areas (IPAs) acting as a benchmark for determining whether the strongest protection, under any existing legislation, is being afforded to the most important sites for plants.

Plantlife International provides the IPA secretariat and maintains a GIS dataset of Important Plant Areas (IPAs) around the world on behalf of the Plantlife Partnership. Natural Resources Wales only has access to the welsh data. This dataset is drawn largely from data provided directly by the Partners but also includes some data digitised by the Plantlife Secretariat or consolidated from 3rd party sources. Where possible we have included a polygon for each IPA, however there remain some sites where it hasn’t yet been possible to create a boundary polygon, in these instances the site has been represented in a separate dataset by a point showing its approximate location.
