JNCC Conservation of River Macrophyte Database (3rd Party Data)
A copy of a Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) database used in the conservation of river macrophytes containing a collation of data on: Site Information, Survey Information, Plants, Physical Data, Fish and Invertebrate data. The database is managed by the Freshwater Lead Co-ordination Network, the data is owned by individual conservation agencies or even individuals and contains NRWs River Macrophyte data. The purpose of this data capture was to collate data on a variety of river sites across Wales. The database is not fully populated: some invert and fish sections have few records, though most of the coverage is reasonably comprehensive.

Data for the collation is derived from a variety of sources, including conservation agencies or individuals. It includes data from over 7,000 survey sites. Data have been collected from all over the UK between 1977 and the present day, following the methods of Holmes et al. (1999). NRW contribute to this database, however JNCC act as distributors by making the information available through the JNCC website as an MS Access database. The RMD is an ‘active’ database (i.e. survey records are still be added). However, with a new standard method of river plant survey now being adopted by the UK conservation agencies (i.e. the LEAFPACS method), it is likely that less surveys will be added in future, and it may develop into more of a 'legacy' database. The publically available version of this database has some information redacted.

This data is comprised of a mixture of third party owned records and NRW records, the collation is managed and distributed by JNCC. NRW may provide access to this dataset on request, however, enquirers are advised to obtain a copy from the owner/originator directly, rather than NRW.
