Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) Sites
In 1996 the EU adopted a set of common rules for permitting and controlling industrial installations in the IPPC Directive. In essence, the IPPC Directive was about minimising pollution from various industrial sources throughout the EU. Operators of industrial installations whose operating activities covered by Annex I of the IPPC Directive were required to obtain an environmental permit from the authorities in the EU countries. Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) Sites is a spatial dataset detail the point location of industrial installations that require a permit under The IPPC Directive. Please note, these points do not indicate the size or area covered by the installations, they represent a general location only. The system of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) set out in the IPPC Directive applies an integrated environmental approach to the regulation of certain industrial activities. This means that emissions to air, water (including discharges to sewer) and land, plus a range of other environmental effects, must be considered together as part of a bespoke mix of regulated pollution prevention. This bespoke regulation will depend on the type, location and size of the installation. IPPC aims to prevent emissions and waste production and where that is not practicable, reduce them to acceptable levels.

This dataset has been extracted from the Permitting and Licences (PALS) database, which forms part of the Customer Relationship Management software. It contains information from both within Wales (Natural Resources Wales owned data) and England (Environment Agency owned data). INFORMATION WARNING: This dataset has not been updated since 2014. - Additional Information
-
IPPC Directive was replaced with the Industrial Emissions Directive and within the UK these are regulated as EPR Installations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
