For SACs in Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is therefore required to report on a regular basis on whether features are in favourable conservation status. Ruppia maritima is a species of aquatic plant known by the common names beaked tasselweed, widgeongrass, ditch-grass and tassel pondweed. Ruppia maritima (beaked tassle weed) is found in suitable habitats all around the British coast and grows in soft sediments in sheltered shallow coastal waters from full salinity to nearly fresh water. The aim of this survey was to return to an area where Ruppia maritima had previously been identified during a Phase 1 survey carried out by Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) to determine whether or not the species is still present. Ruppia maritima has previously been identified by CCW in 1999 during a Phase 1 survey of the Afon Tywi. It was found at grid reference SN371122 in a pool on a track in the higher saltmarsh in the middle reaches of the river. This area was revisited and the results of the survey can be found in this dataset.
