Assessments of the species composition, distribution, abundance, and size structure of larval lamprey (ammocoetes and transformers) populations within these rivers are of particular importance for condition assessment. The data were collected to support the assessment of the conservation status of lampreys within the Usk and Wye catchments. Monitoring the status of lamprey populations is required to comply with the reporting requirements of the Habitats Directive. A total of 54 sites on the River Wye (30 of which contained positive records) and 35 sites on the River Usk (10 of which contained positive records) were sampled.
