LANDMAP is a unique national information system, devised by the former Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), allowing information about landscape in Wales to be collected and organised into a nationally consistent dataset. The LANDMAP database includes both objective and subjective information and is designed to enable landscape quality to be taken into account in decision making.

This is a geographic dataset showing historical landscape classification for Wales in the form of polygons (Aspect Areas) with large amounts of associated textual information, including General, Description, Evaluation, Recommendations, Area Boundary, Evaluation and Bibliography. This dataset focuses on archaeological and historical sites and how they relate to each other and to the surrounding landscape. The features mapped include those resulting from past human activity and structurally prominent patterns and features that contribute to the historic character of the present landscape.

Information is gathered by LANDMAP in order to inform sustainable decision making and to enable landscape to be taken into account during decision making processes. Historic Landscape data can be used to assess the speed, direction and effect of change and to provide an understanding of how the landscape has evolved. A LANDMAP Quality Assurance Procedure is in place to ensure that LANDMAP Information meets an agreed standard of good practice and that data is accurate and consistent across Wales.

Mae LandMap yn system wybodaeth genedlaethol unigryw, sy’n caniatáu i wybodaeth am dirwedd yng Nghymru gael ei chasglu a’i threfnu'n set ddata sy'n gyson yn genedlaethol. Mae cronfa ddata Landmap yn cynnwys gwybodaeth wrthrychol a goddrychol a'i hamcan yw galluogi i ansawdd y dirwedd gael ei ystyried wrth wneud penderfyniadau. Mae’n cynnwys set ddata ddaearyddol sy’n dangos dosbarthiad hanesyddol tirwedd Cymru ar ffurf polygonau (Ardaloedd Agwedd) gyda llawer o wybodaeth destunol gysylltiedig, gan gynnwys Cyffredinol, Disgrifiad, Gwerthusiad, Argymhellion, Goddefgarwch tuag at Newid, Ffin yr Ardal, Gwerthusiad a Llyfryddiaeth. Mae'r set ddata hon yn canolbwyntio ar safleoedd archaeolegol a hanesyddol a’u perthynas â'i gilydd ac â'r dirwedd o’u cwmpas. Mae'r nodweddion a fapiwyd yn cynnwys y rhai sy'n deillio o weithgarwch dynol yn y gorffennol a’r patrymau strwythurol amlwg sy'n cyfrannu at gymeriad hanesyddol y dirwedd bresennol. Cesglir gwybodaeth gan LandMap er mwyn llywio'r broses o wneud penderfyniadau cynaliadwy ac er mwyn galluogi i’r dirwedd gael ei hystyried yn ystod prosesau gwneud penderfyniadau. Gall data Tirwedd Hanesyddol gael ei ddefnyddio i asesu cyflymder, cyfeiriad ac effaith newid a chreu dealltwriaeth o sut mae'r dirwedd wedi esblygu. Mae Trefn Sicrhau Ansawdd LANDMAP ar waith i sicrhau bod Gwybodaeth LANDMAP yn bodloni’r safon arfer da y cytunwyd arni a bod y data’n gywir ac yn gyson ledled Cymru.

Er bod y storfeydd llwytho i lawr yn cael eu hadnewyddu o bryd i'w gilydd ac y dylent fod yn gyson â'r gwasanaeth gwe, os oes angen gwarant bod y data byw yn cael ei ddefnyddio, dylid defnyddio diweddbwynt WFS neu WMS.
