The Long-term Viability of Restored Lowland Heathland in Pembrokeshire
This dataset contains the results of questionnaires and interviews conducted with farmers involved with the management of six restored lowland heathland sites in Pembrokeshire. It includes an assessment of the agricultural value of restored sites versus un-restored sites i.e. had the restoration scheme added value; an assessment of the ecological, environmental and financial implications of a range of long-term management options, and an assessment of the various mechanisms available to support long-term heathland management. The purpose of this data capture was to determine whether the heathland restoration scheme was seen by the agricultural community to have added value to the sites; to determine what levels of support, including financial support and other resources, graziers deemed they required in order to continue to manage the sites in line with nature conservation objectives within the schemes, and to identify any potential future developments which may support or impede the management of heathland.

Six common land project sites were selected. They were chosen because they were in the process of being, or had been, restored. The sites were chosen to represent a range of current restoration or post-restoration management options. Questionnaires were sent to all the farmers with involvement in the six selected commons for whom contact details were available. These were followed up by one-to-one interviews with the farmers who agreed.
