Saltmarsh Features at Burry Inlet and Loughor Estuary (1998)
Use of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) as a basis for community definition in the saltmarsh habitats of Burry Inlet and Loughor Estuary. The area comprises the most extensive site of saltmarsh vegetation in Wales. The purpose of this data capture is to provide detailed information on the distribution of the key elements for which the estuary was submitted for selection as a candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC) including the extent of transitional zones, extent of saltmarsh communities and the distribution of the nationally scarce and locally distributed Marsh Mallow, Althaea officinalis. Another aim of the survey was to provide floristic data to enable the separation of the Mediterranean Saltmeadows from their more generally distributed counterparts.

Standard NVC survey methodology. Data collected by trained personnel, digitised by contractors, validated by CCW KMG, corrections made by contractors, validated again by CCW KMG, corrections made in-house in conjunction with relevant salt marsh specialist. CCW commissioned survey which contributes to an NVC Saltmarsh survey collation (see 'part of' field).
