Geomorphological Response of Welsh Sand Dunes to Sea Level Rise over the Next 100 Years
Results of an assessment into the impact of predicted of sea level rise and climate change on Welsh dune systems over the next 100 years, with particular emphasis on Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and certain other dune sites of key nature conservation importance. The main purpose was to assess the impact of predictions of sea level rise and climate change on Welsh dune systems over the next 100 years, with particular emphasis on cSAC sites, certain Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and other important nature conservation sites. The specific objectives of the study were to: - Estimate future erosion/accretion rates and evolution of the dune systems - Define the extent of sand dune habitat loss - Assess the natural and anthropogenic constraints that may limit the ability of the dune systems to readjust - Identify future management requirements and practices that will ensure the maintenance of the sand dune cSAC resource in Wales in terms of both quantity and quality
