Fluvial Audit of the Upper Usk Tributaries
The results of a Fluvial Geomorphical Audit of the Upper Usk tributaries. The Usk system, comprising the River Usk and its upper tributaries, has been designated as a Special Area for Conservation (SAC) and notified as a Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) for its geomorphological and physiographic features and the associated plant and animal communities. It supports internationally important populations of otter, Atlantic salmon, bullhead, brook lamprey, and river lamprey. This survey provides a baseline source for assessing potential habitat suitability by relating the presence or absence of morphological features to the condition parameters that are identified as habitat preferences for the SAC species. The purpose of this data capture is to develop an understanding of the dynamic geomorphology of the Upper Usk system. The areas surveyed included the Upper Usk system (upstream of Abergavenny), and it's tributaries which included Hydfer, Crai, Senni, Treweryn, Camlais, Tarell, Cynrig, Menascin, Caerfanell, Cilieni, Eithrim, Bran, Ysgir, Ysgir Fechan, Ysgir Fawr, Honddu, Rhiangoll, Grwyne, Grwyne Fechan, Banw, Grwyne Fawr.
