Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon composition of herbage samples following the Sea Empress oil spill
Dataset contains the results of an investigation into the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) composition of grass collected from the South Pembrokeshire coast following the Sea Empress oil spill. Data includes site location and grid references, herbage type, PAH concentrations and n-alkane content. Purpose of this data capture was to determine the concentration of PAH and aliphatic hydrocarbon in herbage samples following the oil spill and detect any patterns/trends.

Grass was collected from south Pembrokeshire coat in late February / early march 1996 following the grounding of the Sea Empress oil tanker. A second round of sampling took place in May 1997. The Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) were isolated from the grass and their composition and concentration determined by gas chromatography with mass selective detection (GC-MSD). The aliphatic hydrocarbon composition was determined by gas chromatography with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID). The only data associated with this project is held within the report.
