Juvenile salmonid survey data for Special Area of Conservation (SAC) rivers.
The Environment Agency monitors juvenile salmon and trout populations nationally by fishing a limited number of sites on an annual basis to obtain meaningful temporal data for trends in fish populations. A more comprehensive spatial monitoring survey programme is carried out every 5 years to investigate differences between groups of sites within particular river catchments. Other species caught in the surveys are also recorded e.g. bullhead, lampreys, eels etc. This dataset contains juvenile salmon data for the 8 rivers designated as Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) in Wales. The purpose of this dataset is to obtain temporal data for trends in fish populations and to investigate differences between groups of sites within river catchments.
