One of the key responsibilities of the statutory nature conservation agencies, such as Natural Resources Wales (NRW), in the UK is the identification and protection of a series of sites intended to conserve important wildlife and earth science features. These sites include SACs which are designated as part of the EC Habitats Directive. Every six years, Member States of the European Union are required to report on implementation of the Habitats Directive, under Article 17 of the Directive. This reporting provides information on: the general implementation of the Directive; and the conservation status of individual habitats and species listed under the Annexes of the Directive.
