Results of Studies into the Impact of Hydraulic Cockle Dredging on Intertidal Sediment Flat Communities
This dataset contains the results of experimental studies investigating the impact of hydraulic cockle dredging on intertidal sediment flat communities at Lafan Sands, North Wales, and Blackshaw Flats, Solway Firth during 1989 and 1990. The purpose of this data capture was to assess the implications of hydraulic dredging for marine nature conservation.

Six sites were established in each area, three to act as controls for the three experimental sites which were dredged during one tidal cycle during June in the case of Lafan Sands, and July for the Blackshaw Flats. The sites were sampled for infaunal and sedimentological analyses on the day before dredging, then one day, one week, three months and six months after dredging. The data were analysed with the aid of a variety of statistical and graphical techniques.
