The purpose of this data capture was to assess the capacity of the estuary to receive wading birds that might be displaced from other estuaries on the Irish Sea flyway by barrage construction. Data capture also helped to obtain data relevant to the management of the adjacent Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve and enabled collection of data on the marine fauna of the area. The fifth core sample was bagged and preserved for sediment analysis. Salinity measurements of the estuary water were obtained for a high spring and a high neap tide.
