The survey was undertaken by members of CCW’s Phase II survey team in 2003, 2004 and 2005, with input from A.M. Averis in 2004. No mapping was carried out in August to October 2003, when the focus was on collecting representative quadrat data for the site’s flush communities. The flushed lowlands of the main block of Preseli (CL19 and most of CL43) were mapped in August and September 2004 by S.D.S. Bosanquet, D.K. Reed and A.J. Turner; at the same time, A.M. Averis mapped the drier upper slopes of the site. The 2004 survey area was revisited in early summer 2005 in order to assess whether Carex dioica, C. hostiana or Eriophorum vaginatum had been missed during the previous autumn’s mapping, and this resulted in the reassigning of some stands of marshy grassland vegetation.
