In 2002 a Hedgerow Survey Handbook was produced setting a standard procedure for local hedgerow surveys in the UK. It was proposed that a series of hedgerow surveys were to be undertaken in Wales using this standard procedure however as yet only the Anglesey survey has taken place due to funding constraints and therefore the database only currently contains data from this one survey. The purpose of this data capture was to build up a detailed body of information on the current status of hedgerows across the UK thus enabling appropriate action to be taken to safeguard the most important hedgerows, and to monitor any changes in the quality and quantity of the hedgerow network over time.
