Modiolus modiolus reef communities are comparatively rich in species and because they are also scarce in the UK it was considered important to monitor elements of community composition as an attribute that indicates the condition of these features. This dataset contains the results of in-situ sampling carried out by divers to try to determine the spatial variation in epifaunal community composition on the horse mussel reef off the coast of North Pen Llyn. Divers were instructed to record as many species as possible on their recording slate and 'gridded' quadrats were used to assist in systematic counting or video recording. Each diver recorded the epifauna within a quadrat from as many rows (1-6) as possible in order to spread any errors associated with recording experience and inter-worker variability across rows.
