Habitat diversity in the intertidal range is measured using biotope richness, biotope distinctness and the number of Biodiversity Action Plan priority features metrics. A hexagonal grid with a resolution of 1 km is utilised to present these metrics. Biotope information for the Welsh intertidal zone was collated from CCW and is full coverage collected using standardised methods. The purpose of this data capture was to establish intertidal habitat diversity from known data. The Welsh coastline from the mean high water datum to the mean low water datum covering the intertidal zone.
