Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Marine Species Sightings and Miscellaneous Data (Extracted from Marine Recorder)
The dataset was set up to collate ad-hoc records of species around Wales as seen by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) staff or provided specifically to NRW for its business use. The purpose of this collation was to record incidental records. These tend to be species of special interest, such as, rare or scarce species or species not considered native in Welsh waters. Data may include incidental records collected while conducting specific scientific research that are outside of the remit of the research or methodology used. This dataset is a work in progress and is continually updated. Sightings date from 2007 onwards however older records may be added from files and notes as required. The majority of the recorded by experienced staff or are verified with known experts and staff through the use of photographs, video or specimens.
