Dormouse Outer Areas
This is a spatial dataset held by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) which holds records from the former Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) dormouse data sourced from areas of work, such as licence returns and dormouse survey work and also The Vincent Wildlife Trust (VWT) dormouse survey data. This dataset is a collation of dormouse records for Wales from the People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) National Dormouse Database, with a spatial resolution of a 2 km buffer zone. Map has been used as basis for Glastir Targeted Element - core (or mandatory) sites. Majority of records collected by experienced surveyors, or verified by experienced surveyors (e.g. nut hunt records). Licence returns have not been independently verified. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) holds a copy of the GIS dataset on their internal GIS data store - however, requestors are advised to obtain the most up-to-date version of the data from PTES. This dataset is also held under the National Dormouse Database (NDD) available to download from the NBN Gateway.

Various methods of data capture are used in this dataset. The record type along with the reliability of the data (good, fair or poor) are detailed in the RecordType and RecordTypeReliability attributes. The majority of data are from either Great Nut Hunts. Additional ad-hoc records are collected by PTES via the online recording form at http://surveydata.ptes.org/dormousemonitoring but these are only included in the NDD if they can be verified by a photograph, nut or detailed description by an experienced monitor.

The species data is also available to download on the NBN Gateway through the PTES National Dormouse Database (NDD).
