The project provides a classification of the main shingle plant communities found on stable or semi-stable structures in Great Britain and was published by Joint Nature Conservation Council (JNCC) in four parts. The data was captured in an attempt to describe the size, location and quality of the Vegetated Shingle Ridges. The surveys focused on the vegetation of stony banks and did not attempt to map strandline communities; therefore the site boundary is not a true representation of the extent of the Shingle Ridge. An overall report which combines all data to determine which plant communities are found on shingle at a national level and how these related to existing National Vegetation Classification (NVC) communities, a map and a description of the major plant communities recorded at each of the sites.
