Sampling was completed to inform decisions on the location of a potential fishing exclusions zone to prevent accidental incursions by fishing gear and smothering by resettlement of sediments suspended by fishing gear operating close to the bed. The work was mainly carried out to collect information about the sediment type in the area surrounding the 'new' Modiolus bed. The data was also collected to inform discussions over the size of buffer area needed around the Modiolus bed for the towed fishing gears (trawls and dredges) exclusion area.
