Drop Down Video Data Caernarfon Bay, Tremadog Bay, Cardigan Bay and west Anglesey (2012)
Bangor University School of Ocean Science undertook video surveys during a research programme. This data was provided to former Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) so CCW could analyse the video and still images for species and habitat information. This data was then collated and entered into Marine Recorder. The purpose of this data capture and collation was to help build an evidence base on which to create informed management decisions within the marine environment. This data allows for a better Bangor University has given former CCW permission to hold, reuse and release this data as appropriate.

Drop-down tows were carried out with a sledge mounted video and stills camera system (models unspecified) which was towed at a speed of approximately 0.5 knots for a period of 10 minutes. Continuous video footaage was recorded on DVD and the digital stills camera took a high resolution image every 10 seconds. The field of view of the video camera covered an area of approximately 0.12m2 (width 0.41m x depth 0.30m). Each still image covered an area of 0.13m2 (0.44m x 0.30m). A manual log was kept of the position and time at the start and end of transect while the camera was on the bottom.
