Information on otter breeding activity is derived from otter road deaths, and from reports of otter cub sightings (collected during visits to householders living close to watercourses). Possible and potential breeding sites were identified from Phase 1 maps, and by walk-over surveys of all possible sites to confirm breeding site potential. A similar method was used to locate potential amphibian feeding sites for otters. To provide an overview of the distribution and juxtaposition of sites (sightings; breeding and feeding sites) rivers are divided into kilometre lengths and each site assigned to the relevant kilometre.
