The Annex 1 habitats surveyed were old sessile oak woods with Ilex and Blechnum (Habitat 91AO); alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior (Alno-Padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae) (Habitat 91EO); Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines (Habitat 9180), and bog woodland (Habitat 91DO). The project was completed in two phases, a survey phase and a monitoring phase. The survey phase of the contract had two main objectives: first, to assess the condition of Annex I woodland habitat within individual management compartments and second, to identify and map hot-spots for lichens and bryophytes. The monitoring phase had a single principal objective: to establish, permanently mark and record 28 sampling plots in areas identified by CCW; these plots will form the basis of long-term monitoring on the sites.
