Low Tide Wetland Birds Surveys (WeBS) Counts and Feeding activity of Oystercatch and Knot in the Burry Inlet Special Protection Area (SPA) and Carmarthen Bay Special Area of Conservation (SAC) (2013-2014).
Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are strictly protected sites classified in accordance with Article 4 of the EC Birds Directive 2009/147/EC, which came into force in April 1979. They are classified for rare and vulnerable birds (as listed on Annex I of the Directive), and for regularly occurring migratory species. This dataset consists of spatial information detailing Wetland Birds Surveys (WeBS) Low Tide Counts carried out various SPAs in the winter of 2013/2014. These count data details feeding and non-feeding birds. The focus of the study was on Oystercatcher and Knot, however other wetland birds were also included. The aims of this study were to support further WeBS Low Tide Counts and provide additional information on the feeding behaviour of Oystercatchers and Knots in the Burry Inlet, Pembrey Coast and Three Rivers Estuary during the low tide period.

WeBS Low Tide Counts were carried out by teams of volunteers co-ordinated by local organisers at the Burry Inlet, Pembrey Coast and Three Rivers Estuary once a month from November 2013 to February 2014. Count sectors matched those used in the previous years surveys and by the WeBS Low Tide Counts scheme. Counts were focused on the priority species of Oystercatcher and Knot but included all waterbird species, and were undertaken during the two hours either side of low tide. Following the work undertaken in 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10, standard WeBS Low Tide Counts of the Burry Inlet, Pembrey Coast and Three Rivers Estuary were carried out in the winter of 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13.
