Bangor University SOS Prince Madog Video and Photographic Survey Data for Habitat and Scallop Assessments (2012)
Surveys of the seabed in Cardigan Bay, Caernarfon Bay, West Anglesey and Tremadog Bay, were carried out by the School of Ocean Sciences (SOS), Bangor University in 2012. The datasets comprises of a collation of video tows, photographs and subsequent species and habitat photographic analyses. The main aim of this survey work was to collect information on the characteristics and status of the offshore benthic environment, with specific reference to scallop beds and habitat types, at various locations around Wales. Confidence in this dataset is high.

Video and photographic surveys took place between May and October 2012. Underwater video and still images were collected using a standard definition digital video camera. A High Definition GoPro video camera system was also positioned laterally on the camera sled to provide a wider angle view of the seabed. Photographic stills were taken along each tow to assist with habitat validation and utilized to inform species identification and augment the species list from the video tows. - MRCCW3170000000E: Habitat Survey. Cardigan Bay - 39 video tows collected from circalittorla habitats within Cardigan Bay (6th - 8th October 2012) - MRCCW31700000013: Habitat Survey. Caernarfon Bay - 10 video tows were collected from circalittoral habitats within Caernarfon Bay (5th October 2012). - MRCCW31700000012: Habitat Survey. West Anglesey - 15 tows were undertaken within circalittoral habitats off West Anglesey (16th May 2012). - MRCCW3170000000D: Scallop Survey. Tremadog Bay - 5 video tows were collected from infralittoral habitats with Tremadog Bay (4th June 2012). - MRCCW31700000010: Scallop Survey. Cardigan Bay - 13 video tows were collected from circalittoral habitats with Cardigan Bay (4th June - 8th October 2012). Videos were analysed for habitats, species and biotopes using standard Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR) derived techniques and Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) Marine Habitat Classification. The footage was analysed by Marine EcoSol on behalf of Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Data was later entered into Marine Recorder by Marine EcoSol.
