Water quality targets for designated riverine features are specified under the JNCC CSM Guidance. The targets are based on routine water quality monitoring and subsequent reporting. Water quality targets are assessed based on the chemistry, biology, phosphate, suspended solids and un-ionized ammonia. Chemistry Classification: based on dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand and ammonia. Sampling: occurred 12 times a year over 3 years Biology Classification: Based on macro-invertebrate communities. Sampling: Kick samples collected in spring and autumn, in one year out of every three. Phosphate Classification: Based on Soluble Reactive Phosphorus (SRP). Sampling: Monthly basis at chemical sampling points. Suspended Solids Classification: Based on the Freshwater Fish Directive. Sampling: Based on annual mean suspended solids. Uni-ionised ammonia Classification: Measured against the target for the river habitat as a 95-percentile.
