Flood Risk Forecast Application Programming Interface (API)
The flood risk forecast is produced by the Flood Forecasting Centre (FFC) on a daily basis. It is issued more frequently when serious flooding is forecast. It provides the indication of the potential for flooding for five days: the day on which it is issued and the subsequent four days ahead. The forecast highlights flood risk on a county by county basis and includes a short commentary on the situation. It covers flooding from rivers, the sea, surface water and groundwater for Wales and England. This dataset is produced in partnership with the Met Office Flood Forecasting Centre and the Environment Agency and is intended to complement the Flood Warning Service provided by Natural Resources Wales.

The most recent available flood risk forecast is available as a single JSON data structure. The forecast includes small images showing the regions affected by the forecast risks. These are included in the forecast data as base64 encoded png images, for convenience they are also available as decoded images. Information Warnings: This flood risk dataset is intended to be used as a statement at a single point in time of the risk of flooding over a five day period. This data should be used for planning and preparation purposes only and not for public advice, instruction or information during a flooding emergency. Due to the risks of misinformation either in accuracy or timeliness, public authoritative advice in relation to this data should be sought during a flooding emergency from Natural Resources Wales. This is available via Natural Resources Wales website or by telephoning Floodline on 0345 988 11 88. Live data from the API should be consumed in real time and kept up to date to avoid misinformation. Real Time Commentary in Welsh language is generated by an automated English to Welsh translation tool. Natural Resources Wales are continually developing this tool and accept no liability for inaccuracies it may contain. Flood forecasts can also be viewed on Natural Resources Wales Website here: http://naturalresources.wales/flooding/5-day-flood-forecast
