Welsh Permitted Waste Operations
The EU Waste Framework Directive (2008/98EC) provides the legislative framework for the collection, transport, recovery and disposal of waste. The directive requires all Member States to take the necessary measures to ensure waste is recovered or disposed of without endangering human health or causing harm to the environment and includes permitting, registration and inspection requirement. Article 28 of the Waste Framework Directive specifically requires Member States to publically make available any data relating to waste facilities. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) issue waste permits across Wales to anyone who deals with waste of any kind. This dataset contains details, obtained from the returned permits, of the waste facilities located across Wales. These waste sites are categorised into groups with each sub-type of waste site being linked to the overarching category.

Within the dataset the number of Planning Authorities (25) differs to the number of Local Authorities (22) as the 3 National Parks are only included in the Planning Authorities attribute.
