Afon Eden - Cors Goch Trawsfynydd Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Freshwater Pearl Mussel Population Condition Assessment Report - Habitats Directive Reporting Cycle 3 (2013 - 2018)
Freshwater pearl mussel counts were carried out in specific monitoring sections and transects on the Afon Eden. The methodology followed protocol devised for the Afon Eden in 2003. The data was collected to feed into condition assessment of the pearl mussel population on the Afon Eden according to Common Standards Monitoring guidance for Freshwater fauna for the following attributes: Spatial extent, Population density, Age structure, Dead shells, Suitable habitat

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is responsible for monitoring the condition of the river habitat quality on Special Area of Conservation (SAC) rivers designated for the Freshwater Pearl Mussel feature (Margaritifera margaritifera, EU habitat code 1029). NRW is required to evaluate the conservation status of this river species. The Common Standards Monitoring (CSM) guidance (Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), 2015) sets out four population sub-attributes for the condition of this SAC feature.
