Historically recorded from a small number of montane sites in Wales, including Cadair Idris, Y Lliwedd on Yr Wyddfa, and Carnedd y Ddelw, the species had not been confirmed from Wales in recent years. Surveys were conducted between May and October 2017 at all known Welsh locations to assess its continued presence. A total of five adult beetles were recorded, with two individuals found on Cadair Idris and three on Y Lliwedd. No specimens were recorded from Carnedd y Ddelw or Eglwyseg Rocks. The survey confirmed that Leistus montanus remains present in Wales but appears to be restricted to a small number of upland scree habitats.
