Seilwaith Gwyrdd Trefol: Galw am Fannau Gwyrdd Trefol - Mannau Gwyrdd Hygyrch Trefo
This dataset was created for the Welsh Information for Nature-based Solutions (WINS) project (previously known as SCCAN) to identify opportunities for land management interventions that enhance ecosystem service delivery across a range of key policy areas. An accompanying User Guide is available to support the use of these datasets, and a full list of source datasets and data limitations can be found in the project technical report.
This dataset shows the catchment areas of accessible greenspaces, with particular emphasis on greenspaces likely to provide a more natural experience. It also identifies urban areas that currently lack access to greenspace and therefore represent areas of demand. These demand areas are prioritised according to population size and levels of deprivation.

Accessible greenspaces were identified using OS MasterMap and OS Open Greenspace data. Phase 1 Habitat Map data were also used to identify beaches within the MasterMap dataset. Only greenspace polygons larger than 0.5 ha were included. For beaches, only polygons intersecting the Bathing Waters at Designated Beaches dataset were retained to identify beaches that are likely to be publicly accessible.
Proxy access points to greenspaces were identified by intersecting greenspace polygons with the Integrated Transport Network (ITN) and Public Rights of Way (PROW) network. For beaches, polygons were first buffered by 20 m to identify potential access points. For each access point, a route network was generated using the ITN and PROW network to a maximum distance of 400 m, representing the routes available to access the greenspace.
Catchment areas were then created using concave hulls to define the area that could be reached within a 400 m travel distance of each greenspace. Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) data, supplied by local authorities and collated by NRW, together with the Green Flag Award dataset, were used to identify greenspaces likely to be of particularly high quality or to provide a more natural experience.
