What the map shows: This map shows areas that are suitable for woodland planting subdivided into woodland size categories, identifying opportunities to plant large, medium or small-scale woodlands, based on the number of land owners. To incorporate information on the number of land owners, LPIS CRN codes were used. Connected areas of woodland opportunity space were classed as opportunity spaces for large (over 500ha), medium (between 5ha and 500ha) and small (less than 5ha) woodlands. Within each resulting area the number of individual CRNs were counted to give an approximation of the number of land owners that would need to be consulted to plant woodland on their land. The strength of the opportunity was scored based on the number of land owners that would need to be involved, and the likelihood of reaching agreement with increasing numbers of landowners. This dataset was produced for NRW under contract by Environment Systems Ltd.
