What the map shows: The map shows areas where management action could be taken to reduce nutrient enrichment in coastal and transitional waterbodies, as well as lakes and rivers. Management opportunities considered for reduction of nutrient enrichment are the restoration of land well-connected to the local water environment; hedgerow planting in proximity to agricultural land likely to be a diffuse source of nutrients; planting riparian woodland or wooded shelterbelts along drainage channels. Where this type of land is well connected to the water environment, an opportunity exists to weaken this connection through increasing surface roughness (thereby reducing overland flow), for example via habitat restoration or reducing grazing pressure.
