WINS ONS Broad Habitats - Wales
This map shows the broad habitats throughout Wales based on the Office of National Statistics broad habitats classes. It has been created as part of the project GIS for Area Statements (GISfAS) to support land cover ecosystem accounts by providing information on current economic value and change in land cover. GISfAS is part of a suite of projects also including SoNaRR (State of National Resources Reporting) and SAfAS (Spatial Analysis for Area Statements), all of which are facilitating management of natural resources and ecosystem services within Wales.

The map was created using remote sensing methodology combined with knowledge of the previous field classification; only the rare habitats have been systematically checked. Because of the methods used some classes of habitats have higher certainty than others. Due to time constraints no attempt was made to take accuracy and certainty into account when translating the Phase 1 classes into Broad Habitats.
