Pen y Cymoedd Windfarm Spur Roads
This dataset shows Pen y Cymoedd Spur Roads. Spur roads are all roads that are used to access the wind turbine power systems. These roads tend to divert from the original forest road system and in places they enter the demised areas. This is the final true data received from the developer (Vattenfall) signifying the end of the construction phase.

GIS data provided to NRW for the PyC Windfarm project was acquired from various different sources/contractors as discussed below, but essentially is all derived from GPS surveys undertaken at various stages of the construction process: 1. Site Civils (turbine locations, track edge, crane hard-standings, culverts, coupe crossing points and all general civils detail etc. etc.): acquired by the Principal Contractor, JBBB, as part of the final 'As-built' survey undertaken post construction. A dual-frequency survey grade GPS was used, and the data was processed, and final drawings issued by Grontmij on behalf of the Principal Contractor in or around July 2018. Drawings were issued as AutoCAD dwg and converted to ArcGIS shape files to OSGB36 coordinate system/projection. 2. On-site cable arrays (33kV cabling): this was installed by subcontractor PSUK and the locations were surveyed at installation using a survey grade GPS, although there was some question about the accuracy of some sections (which may have been surveyed with a lower accuracy hand-held GPS). 3. The Grid Connection Route and Sub-Station Infrastructure: surveyed by grid connection Contractor ABB using survey grade GPS, although some discrepancies were identified when compared to civils as-built drawings. Whilst all surveys are theoretically accurate to about 0.5m (when related to OSGB/OSTN2) some uncertainties were identified: given the size of the site, the complex terrain, and the degradation of GPS in dense forestry, an overall accuracy of +/- 2m should be assumed.
