Otter Road Mortality Survey (ORMS)
The Otter Road Mortality Survey (ORMS) database was initiated after the UK Otter Biodiversity Action Plan (which arose from the Rio Summit of 1992) identified that otter road deaths were a significant factor causing loss or decline in otter populations in the UK. The database was initiated in association with a report commissioned to identify blackspots in Wales (written by Geoff Liles and published in March 2000). Members of the Public who spot dead otters and report them were originally asked to complete a paper form to provide observational details. These were subsequently recorded in the ORMS Access database.

This is data extracted from a MS Access database that is being decommissioned and turned into a Geodatabase and GIS web form interface. Data consists of: 1. MS Access Database - to be decommissioned and archived. MS access database reference number 05391 2. Paper survey forms including hand drawn sketches - to be sent to off-site storage (and potentially digitised at a later date) 3. Replacement Geodatabase and associated .lyr files to be made available on GIS While the original data has been preserved, an ArcGIS Online application is currently in development and will permit the Public to submit their own sightings via a GIS form that will continue to develop our understanding. Both datasets (old and new) can be combined on request.

This data is comprised of a mixture of volunteered records and NRW records. NRW policy permits access to and release of this data under the same terms as its own data. Part of the dataset is sensitive and access is restricted. Sensitive data must be kept confidential, so general release is not permitted due to containing personal data. A redacted version is available, which has no access restrictions and NRW may release, publish or disseminate freely.
