Sands of LIFE (SoLIFE) Invertebrate Surveys
This report presents the results of surveys carried out for the Sands of LIFE project to understand the impact of dune slack rejuvenation and other sand dune restoration work on the invertebrate fauna. Dune slacks are known to support a range of rare and specialist invertebrate species that are expected to benefit from the works.
Pitfall trapping, timed sweep netting and visual searches were undertaken across seven project sites: Merthyr Mawr, Kenfig, Whiteford Burrows, Pembrey Burrows, Morfa Harlech, Newborough and Tywyn Aberffraw. Morfa Dinlle was also surveyed but only in 2019. Surveys were carried out in May, July and August in three separate years, 2019, 2021 and 2022. At each project site survey plots were identified in 2019 at locations where future conservation management interventions were planned, as well as nearby control areas.
The data includes invertebrates (Coleoptera, Diptera, Araneae, Opiliones, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera (Heteroptera) identified to species level together with their frequency for each survey plot in each project site.
