Flood Map for Planning Flood Zones 2 and 3

The Flood Map for Planning (FMfP) includes climate change information to show how this will affect flood risk extents for rivers, the sea and surface water and small watercourses over the next century. It shows the potential extent of flooding assuming no defences are in place. It also indicates areas at risk from coastal erosion, areas that have flooded in the past and key information on the location of flood defence infrastructure.

The FMfP can be considered as the best available information on flood risk and will replace the Development Advice Map for planning purposes when the Welsh Government implements the revised TAN15. Although it currently has no official status for planning purposes it is a useful data source when considering flood risks.

The coming into force of the new TAN 15 and the Flood Map for Planning has been suspended due to a further consultation on the TAN.

Technical advice note (TAN) 15: development, flooding and coastal erosion - https://www.gov.wales/technical-advice-note-tan-15-development-flooding-and-coastal-erosion

The Flood Zones within the FMfP shows the undefended risk of flooding from Rivers, the Sea and from Surface Water & Small Watercourses.

Flood Zone 3 displays the extent of flooding from:

• rivers with a 1% (1 in 100) chance or greater of happening in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

• the sea with a 0.5% (1 in 200) chance or greater of happening in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

• Surface water & small watercourses with a 1% (1 in 100) chance or greater of happening in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

Flood Zone 2 displays the extent of flooding from:

• Rivers with less than 1% (1 in 100) but greater than or equal to 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance of happening in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

• the Sea with less than 0.5% (1 in 200) but greater than or equal to 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance of flooding in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

• Surface water & small watercourses with less than 1% (1 in 100) but greater than or equal to 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance of happening in any given year, including an allowance for climate change.

Mae'r Map Llifogydd ar gyfer Cynllunio yn cefnogi polisi cynllunio Llywodraeth Cymru ar berygl llifogydd a dyma'r man cychwyn ar gyfer ystyried perygl llifogydd yn y system cynllunio. Mae'n rhoi syniad o ba dir sydd mewn perygl o lifogydd gan afonydd, y môr a dŵr wyneb a chyrsiau dŵr bach, gan ystyried effeithiau newid yn yr hinsawdd dros y ganrif nesaf. Y Map Llifogydd ar gyfer Cynllunio yw'r set ddata allweddol i hysbysu a llywio penderfyniadau ynghylch datblygiad yn y dyfodol.

Mae'r Parthau Llifogydd yn y Map Llifogydd ar gyfer Cynllunio yn dangos y peryglon anniffynedig o lifogydd o afonydd, y môr ac o ddŵr wyneb a chyrsiau dŵr bach.

Mae Parth Llifogydd 3 yn arddangos rhychwant y llifogydd o:

afonydd gyda siawns o 1% (1 mewn 100) neu fwy o ddigwydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

y môr gyda siawns o 0.5% (1 mewn 200) neu fwy o ddigwydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

Dŵr wyneb a chyrsiau dŵr bach gyda siawns o 1% (1 mewn 100) neu fwy o ddigwydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

Mae Parth Llifogydd 2 yn arddangos rhychwant y llifogydd o:

afonydd gyda siawns llai nag 1% (1 mewn 100) ond mwy na 0.1% (1 mewn 1,000) neu'n gyfartal o ddigwydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

y môr gyda siawns llai na 0.5% (1 mewn 200) ond mwy na 0.1% (1 mewn 1,000) neu'n gyfartal o lifogydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

dŵr wyneb a chyrsiau dŵr bach gyda siawns llai nag 1% (1 mewn 100) ond mwy na 0.1% (1 mewn 1,000) neu'n gyfartal o ddigwydd unrhyw flwyddyn, gan gynnwys lwfans ar gyfer newid yn yr hinsawdd.

Caiff y Map Llifogydd ar gyfer Cynllunio ei arddangos mewn dwy ran, sef golwg sylfaenol a golwg fanwl. Yn yr olwg sylfaenol, dangosir y perygl llifogydd o afonydd a'r môr fel haen wedi'i huno. Yn yr olwg fanwl, caiff y perygl llifogydd ei rannu yn ffynonellau unigol. Yn y ddwy olwg, dangosir y Parthau Llifogydd ar gyfer dŵr wyneb a chyrsiau dŵr bach ar wahân.

Lineage

The FMfP is displayed in two parts, a Basic View and a Detailed View. In the Basic View the risk of flooding from Rivers and the Sea is shown as a merged layer. In the Detailed View flood risk is separated into individual sources. In both views, Flood Zones for Surface Water & Small Watercourses are shown separately.

Additional Information

More information about the national-scale modelling created as part of the FRAW project is available. Information on the local model data incorporated to the Flood Zones is available from the relevant Flood Risk Analysis teams.
