Prior to this survey, the site's invertebrate fauna was poorly documented, with only a single survey undertaken in 1991, focused primarily on Diptera. Natural Resources Wales commissioned this survey to assess the ditch and fen invertebrate assemblages of the site and to investigate the presence of two European protected species, the Narrow-mouthed Whorl Snail (Vertigo angustior) and Desmoulin’s Whorl Snail (Vertigo moulinsiana). The survey was undertaken in the context of environmental changes associated with the sea wall breach and managed retreat at Cwm Ivy Marsh, which resulted in the loss of grazing marsh habitat to saltmarsh. The survey provided an assessment of the current invertebrate interest of Llangennith Moors and identified habitats of particular ecological importance for wetland invertebrates.
