Forester Management Features
This dataset contains spatial information on management features located within the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and maintained for forestry management purposes. The data support activities such as forest planning, operational management, health and safety, and access management. Features represented within the dataset include crossing points (typically electricity and telecommunications infrastructure), cattle grids, gates, barriers, areas of open water, walls and natural watercourses occurring within forest estate boundaries.

The dataset has been compiled from observations collected by operational forestry staff during site visits across the forest estate. Features have been recorded on an ad hoc basis using methods including paper-based mapping and Global Positioning System (GPS) survey. Captured information is stored and managed within NRW's Forester application.
The dataset includes a range of management features relevant to forestry operations, including crossing points, cattle grids, gates, barriers, open water bodies, walls and natural watercourses. Areas of open water generally represent naturally occurring and permanent water features rather than water bodies created by damming. Watercourse features represent natural, typically permanent, rivers, streams and drains.
As data collection is undertaken opportunistically rather than through a systematic survey programme, the dataset may be incomplete and may not reflect current on-site conditions. Users should therefore treat the information as indicative and should not rely upon it as a definitive or up-to-date record. Where accurate or current information is required, the dataset should be verified against additional sources or field observations.
