A survey for larvae of the caddis Limnephilus tauricus on Cors Erddreiniog - Winter 2022
The ‘Natur am Byth!’ partnership brings together environmental charities and Natural Resources Wales to deliver a programme focused on preventing species extinction and reconnecting people with nature in Wales. Following the rediscovery of adult specimens of the Vulnerable caddisfly Limnephilus tauricus at Cors Erddreiniog in July and August 2022, an extensive survey was undertaken to identify breeding sites and improve understanding of the species' distribution at its only known Welsh locality. A total of 26 locations were surveyed for larvae between November and December 2022. The survey also included searches for the Critically Endangered Limnephilus pati, a species known to occur alongside L. tauricus elsewhere but not previously recorded in Wales.
