It updates a previous survey undertaken by Averis in 1998. The bryophyte assemblage was found to be of national conservation interest and is certainly within the top ten sites in Wales for Oceanic Ravine Bryophytes (a species assemblage of national conservation importance under Section 7 of the Environment (Wales) Act 2006). The survey area comprises two sections of the Afon Rheidol, one running north from Devil’s Bridge for approximately 3km and one running west from Devil’s Bridge for approximately 2km.
