The Narrow-mouthed Whorl Snail Vertigo angustior, listed on the EC Habitats & Species Directive Annex IIa, was first found on Whiteford Burrows in May 1983 - a new live record for the species not only in Wales but also in western Britain. Previous V. angustior studies have been carried out at this location between 1983 and 2018. It was suggested that further surveys be undertaken at the far north-east of the transition zone, throughout the main body of the dune system (focussing upon areas in damp hollows and on the margins of dune slacks where the water table is near the surface) and with a survey of the Cwm Ivy Marsh marine/terrestrial transition zone recently formed with the area now subject to tidal inflow. A total of 29 sites were surveyed.
