Monitoring points were compared to the monitoring points used for WFD and SAC compliance assessments to get an initial list linking lake sample points to individual lakes. Monitoring points within the dataset were then spatially joined to lakes in the CEH lakes layer. An initial distance buffer of 100 m was applied to monitoring points within this proximity distance of lakes, assumed to be associated with that lake catchment. Sites outside of this range were excluded. Monitoring sampling point types were assessed to determine whether they should be included within the assessment. Monitoring points on rivers and those draining away from lakes were excluded from the assessment. The total phosphorus and nitrate data was processed using a bespoke Python script to determine lake mean concentrations between 2014 and 2019 for each monitoring location. Monitoring data for the years 2014-2019 was selected for this assessment as a continuation from the years used for the previous assessment.
