Cardiff Fringe Hedgerow Survey
In order to further an understanding of and improve connectivity in the landscape Natural Resources Wales commissioned a survey of the hedgerow network around Cardiff in two areas to the North and South West of Cardiff. A total of 696 hedgerows were surveyed in November and December 2022 using a bespoke survey pro forma based primarily on the DEFRA hedgerow survey handbook. This dataset compromises of a range of maps that are based on analysis of aerial imagery using AI.

Surveys commenced in November 2022 and ended in December 2022, which is outside of the botanical growing season. As a result, it was agreed that ground flora would not be recorded during the surveys and although every effort was made to survey both sides of every hedge, in some instances it was only possible to collect data from one side due to lack of access.
